Job Overview:

As a Customs Brokerage Representative, you will be responsible for managing and facilitating the customs clearance process for imports and exports, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations. You will serve as the primary point of contact between clients, customs authorities, and internal teams, ensuring that shipments are cleared through customs in a timely and efficient manner.

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of customs regulations, tariff codes, and a strong understanding of international trade processes.

  • Prepare and submit all necessary customs documentation for import and export shipments, including commercial invoices, bills of lading, packing lists, and customs declarations.
  • Ensure compliance with all customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements to avoid delays or penalties.
  • Coordinate with customs authorities to obtain necessary clearances for the movement of goods across borders.
  • Review shipping documents and ensure proper classification of goods according to Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients regarding customs clearance inquiries and requirements.
  • Provide clients with updates on the status of their shipments and resolve any customs-related issues or delays.
  • Advise clients on customs regulations, tariffs, and import/export requirements for different countries or regions.
  • Address and resolve any disputes or issues regarding customs procedures, tariffs, or taxes.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant national and international trade regulations, including import/export restrictions, documentation requirements, and security protocols.
  • Monitor and stay updated on any changes in customs regulations, tariffs, and trade laws to ensure compliance.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of all import/export declarations and documentation to avoid penalties or delays.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (logistics, operations, sales) to ensure smooth customs clearance and timely delivery of shipments.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all customs documentation, including import/export declarations, invoices, and correspondence with authorities.
  • Ensure all customs-related records are organized and compliant with both internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with audits and ensure that all documentation is ready and accessible for review by customs authorities or auditors.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing client inquiries regarding customs clearance procedures, documentation, and shipment statuses.
  • Identify potential delays or issues in the customs clearance process and work with clients and authorities to resolve them efficiently.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarding teams to ensure any discrepancies in shipments or documentation are rectified promptly.
  • Work closely with the customs brokerage team to improve and streamline processes and workflows, ensuring faster and more efficient customs clearance.
  • Recommend process improvements and assist in implementing new systems or practices to increase efficiency and reduce errors.

Requirements:

In the role for Customs Brokerage Representative, we are looking for profile with a high school diploma or equivalent is required; a degree in international business, logistics, or a related field is preferred. Certification in customs brokerage (e.g., Customs Broker License) is a plus. 2-3 years of experience in customs brokerage or a related field, ideally within the shipping, logistics, or freight forwarding industries. Hands-on experience with import/export procedures, customs regulations, and customs documentation. Knowledge of international trade agreements, tariff codes, and compliance requirements is highly desirable. Proficient in using customs software, shipping platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
