Job Overview:

In the role of Contractual - Taxation Consultant the resource will be responsible for providing expert advice on all taxation-related matters for the company. This includes ensuring compliance with all relevant tax regulations, managing tax planning and optimization, preparing tax returns, and offering strategic recommendations for tax savings. The consultant will also liaise with the company's finance and legal teams to resolve tax-related issues while ensuring compliance with international taxation laws and regulations specific to the shipping, logistics, and freight forwarding industry.

The role focuses on tax compliance, planning, and reporting while providing strategic tax advice for international business operations.


What will you enjoy doing (duties/tasks)

  • Ensure compliance with corporate tax regulations, customs duties, and other taxes applicable to shipping, logistics, and freight forwarding operations.
  • Review, prepare, and file tax returns including VAT, corporate income tax, and any other indirect taxes.
  • Monitor and track changes in tax legislation and advise the company on necessary compliance adjustments.
  • Assist in the development of tax-efficient strategies related to the company’s international business activities.
  • Review contracts and transactions to ensure optimal tax treatment and implement strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
  • Evaluate the tax implications of new business operations, acquisitions, or cross-border transactions, including transfer pricing issues.
  • Manage customs duties, VAT, and other indirect taxes related to the import and export of goods.
  • Provide guidance on the tax impact of international shipping operations and cross-border trade.
  • Work closely with customs brokers and other partners to ensure compliance and avoid any penalties.
  • Support the company during tax audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to queries from tax authorities.
  • Handle tax disputes and work towards amicable resolutions with tax authorities.
  • Review and prepare responses to any notices or challenges regarding tax assessments.
  • Prepare detailed tax reports for management, highlighting any potential issues, risks, and opportunities for tax savings.
  • Maintain proper records of tax filings, documents, and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Assist with tax-related internal and external audits as required.
  • Work closely with the finance and legal teams to ensure tax efficiency and compliance across all areas of the business.
  • Advise on the tax implications of various operational and financial decisions.
  • Provide ongoing guidance on new tax laws, regulations, and industry-specific practices.
  • Advise on tax incentives, exemptions, and other relevant schemes available in shipping, logistics, and international trade.

Requirements:

What you need to succeed (Qualifications, experience, skills, attributes)!
In the role for Contractual - Taxation Consultant, we are looking for profile with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field. Professional qualifications such as CA (Chartered Accountant), CPA, or CTA (Chartered Tax Advisor) preferred. At least 5-7 years of experience in taxation, preferably in the shipping, logistics, or freight forwarding industries. Strong understanding of local and international tax laws, including VAT/GST, corporate taxation, customs duties, and transfer pricing.

Experience dealing with tax authorities and handling tax audits. Strong ethical standards and integrity.

Highly organized with the ability to meet tight deadlines. Proactive and able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
