Job Overview:

The Contractual – Chartered Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing financial and accounting functions within a shipping, logistics, and freight forwarding company. This role will ensure the financial health and compliance of the company through accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and adherence to regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in accounting principles, financial analysis, taxation, and internal controls specific to the logistics and freight forwarding industry.

The role demands strong expertise in financial management, accounting, taxation, and regulatory compliance, with an understanding of the unique challenges within the logistics and shipping industries.


What will you enjoy doing (duties/tasks)

  • Prepare, review, and finalize monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide detailed reports to senior management on financial performance, identifying areas of concern and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international accounting and financial regulations, including those specific to the shipping, logistics, and freight forwarding sectors.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of statutory tax returns and other regulatory filings as required.
  • Lead the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts in coordination with department heads and senior management.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide periodic updates and recommendations for corrective actions to meet financial goals.
  • Evaluate and analyze variances between actual and budgeted figures, recommending cost-effective measures to improve profitability.
  • Provide support for tax planning and compliance, ensuring adherence to all applicable tax laws and regulations (including VAT/GST, corporate tax, and customs duties).
  • Collaborate with tax consultants and ensure accurate tax reporting and timely tax filings.
  • Assist in managing tax audits and resolving any tax-related queries or issues from tax authorities.
  • Oversee cash flow management by preparing cash flow projections, monitoring liquidity, and ensuring the company has sufficient cash reserves for operations.
  • Monitor receivables and payables to ensure timely collection of outstanding amounts and the efficient management of company obligations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate financial processes to enhance efficiency and reduce manual efforts.
  • Recommend improvements to accounting systems and processes, ensuring that the company is using best practices and the most effective tools.
  • Provide training and support to finance staff on new financial systems and tools.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, ensuring timely and efficient audit processes.
  • Assist external auditors during the year-end audit process and ensure that audit recommendations are implemented.
  • Maintain effective relationships with banks, auditors, and other financial institutions.
  • Analyze operational costs and identify cost-saving initiatives within various business functions, particularly in logistics and freight forwarding.
  • Work with the operations team to assess the financial implications of business decisions and provide recommendations for improving profitability.
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analysis as required by senior management to support strategic decision-making.
  • Assist in evaluating new business opportunities, investments, and partnerships, performing due diligence and financial modelling.

Requirements:

What you need to succeed (Qualifications, experience, skills, attributes)!
In the role for Contractual – Chartered Accountant, we are looking for profile with a Chartered Accountant (CA) certification along with Bachelor's/ Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. At least 5-7 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and taxation, with a preference for experience in the shipping, logistics, or freight forwarding industry. Hands-on experience in preparing financial statements, managing budgets, and handling audits. Knowledge of industry-specific accounting standards and regulations. Expertise in financial reporting, accounting principles, and financial analysis.

Strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, including VAT/GST, customs duties, and corporate taxation. Excellent proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Tally) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial matters to non-financial stakeholders.
