Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Commercial Manager (CMT) to join our team in the shipping logistics and freight forwarding industry. This critical role is responsible for driving the commercial success of the company by developing and managing commercial strategies, leading customer relationships, negotiating contracts, and overseeing commercial operations. The Commercial Manager will focus on achieving revenue targets, increasing market share, and optimizing the company’s commercial operations, with a particular focus on Container Management and Transport (CMT) operations.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, in-depth knowledge of logistics and freight forwarding services, and a proven ability to develop strategic commercial partnerships that drive business growth.



What will you enjoy doing (duties/tasks)

  • Develop and implement the company’s commercial strategy for CMT (Container Management and Transport) services in alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Conduct market analysis and identify new business opportunities in existing and new markets.
  • Formulate pricing strategies and commercial terms based on market conditions, customer demands, and competitive analysis.
  • Establish and nurture long-term relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Proactively engage with major clients, suppliers, and vendors to understand their needs, resolve issues, and ensure the delivery of high-quality services.
  • Negotiate contracts, service level agreements (SLAs), and pricing terms with customers to maximize profitability and ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure effective communication and timely delivery of services.
  • Set sales targets and KPIs for the commercial team and ensure they are met or exceeded.
  • Drive the development of new business by identifying potential clients and expanding the company’s service offerings.
  • Lead the preparation of proposals, bids, and tenders for potential customers, ensuring competitive pricing and value-added services.
  • Monitor and analyze sales performance data, providing regular reports to senior management.
  • Oversee the negotiation and execution of contracts with clients, ensuring that terms are favourable for both the company and the customer.
  • Review and manage contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with the legal team to ensure that all commercial agreements are compliant with local and international trade laws.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to identify growth opportunities.
  • Use market intelligence and competitor benchmarking to adjust the company’s commercial strategies and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Regularly assess market conditions and provide recommendations for pricing, service offerings, and new markets.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to ensure the effective delivery of logistics services, including transport, container management, and freight forwarding.
  • Ensure that the commercial team provides the necessary support to the operations team to ensure smooth coordination between departments.
  • Work with the IT team to ensure that the company’s digital platforms and systems align with commercial strategies and customer needs.
  • Develop and manage the commercial budget, ensuring that all activities are within financial targets.
  • Track financial performance and provide regular updates to senior management regarding profitability, cost structures, and sales forecasts.
  • Ensure cost-effective use of resources and identify areas where efficiencies can be achieved.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the commercial team, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet targets and provide excellent customer service.
  • Conduct performance reviews and professional development sessions for commercial team members.
  • Foster a positive and high-performance work culture within the commercial team.
  • Assess commercial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them, ensuring that the business adheres to regulatory and compliance standards in all markets served.
  • Identify potential risks related to contracts, pricing, or client relationships and work to minimize exposure.
  • Provide regular reports and presentations on sales performance, market trends, and business development activities to senior management.
  • Utilize CRM and other systems to track leads, opportunities, and progress towards targets.
  • Prepare detailed forecasts and ensure alignment with operational capabilities

Requirements:

What you need to succeed (Qualifications, experience, skills, attributes)!
In the role for Commercial Manager (CMT), we are looking for profile with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field is required. An MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is a plus. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial management, sales, or business development in the shipping logistics, freight forwarding, or transportation industry. Experience specifically in Container Management and Transport (CMT) operations is highly preferred. Proven track record of successfully managing large customer portfolios, negotiating complex contracts, and driving revenue growth. In-depth knowledge of the shipping logistics and freight forwarding industry, including CMT services, transport management, and supply chain solutions. Strong understanding of pricing models, contract management, and commercial negotiation processes. Familiarity with logistics software and systems (TMS, WMS, ERP systems, etc.).

Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on motivating teams to achieve goals.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Analytical thinking with the ability to make data-driven decisions. Strategic mindset with the ability to see the bigger picture while managing day-to-day operations. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
